Grasshoppers, Crickets and Katydids
Instructor: Whitney Cranshaw, Emeritus Professor of Entomology at Colorado State

Saturday, March 29 | 12:30–2 p.m. | $23 In–person

Grasshoppers are among the most destructive pests to crops and gardens in the High Plains and Rocky Mountain regions. In this class, we will explore the different species of grasshoppers found in the area, their behaviors, life cycles, and strategies for managing them—though controlling them during large outbreaks can be particularly challenging. Additionally, we will introduce some of their close relatives, including crickets and katydids. While these insects are less likely to damage plants, they are fascinating creatures and are often heard as the familiar sounds of our region’s most common singing insects.
