Good Soil: the Bottom Line for Good Gardens

The foundation of life on earth, and a beautiful garden, soil is a complex and amazing ecosystem. In this class we will explore what is a living soil - its tilth, texture, structure, pore space. Participants will learn how to determine sandy, clay or loam via a soil test, how to take a soil test and where to have it analyzed. Additionally, we will discover how to choose and work with soil amendments like manure, compost, cover crops and green manure; earth worms and address problems with soil like compaction and soil drainage.
